Piedmont Triad – If you are headed to the Piedmont Triad International Airport in the next few weeks, you will be able to drive to the airport on Bryan Boulevard just as you always have despite changing traffic patterns in the airport area.
A contractor working for NCDOT will close Bryan Boulevard between the airport exit (Old Oak Ridge Road) and Regional Road/Burgess Road to through-traffic. Airport officials want passengers driving to PTI to know that the road closure will not affect them during this period, no matter which direction they are coming from. They will be able to continue on Bryan Boulevard to the airport entrances from the east and from the west.
The construction work associated with the completion of the I-73 connector will affect through-traffic in both directions on Bryan Boulevard. Through-traffic in both directions will be detoured around the airport.
As for traffic leaving the airport, East bound vehicles will be unaffected by the road closure. West bound traffic leaving the airport will follow detour signs.
“We know this may be a bit confusing for our passengers at first,” said Kevin Baker, the airport’s executive director. “Our primary message is this: If in doubt, just do what you always have done to get to the airport.”
