It’s not every day that you get a chance to get out on a runway, but running a 5K or 10K runway is an opportunity you don’t want to miss. Piedmont Triad International Airport is hosting its annual charity event, 5K / 10K on the Runway, on September 18th beginning at 9am.
This year’s event has a goal of raising $100,000 to fight hunger in the Triad area with beneficiaries Second Harvest Foodbank of Northwest NC, Greensboro Urban Ministry and Open Door Ministries of High Point. The title sponsors for the event are Lenny Peters Foundation and Bethany Medical Center. Last year’s event was cancelled due to the onset of the pandemic, but Chairman of the Airport Authority Board Paul Mengert says, “We’re thrilled to be back on the runway again this year raising funds to truly make a difference right here in our own community.”
Along with the title sponsors, several other local organizations are in the lineup as sponsors, including:
- Ilderton Chrysler, Dodge & Jeep,
- PTIA Employee Challenge,
- HondaJet,
- Haeco Americas,
- Blue Ridge Companies,
- ThermoFisher Scientific,
- Association Management Group,
- Koury Aviation,
- Volvo Group,
- High Point University, and
- NAI Piedmont Triad.
Want to know how you can get involved? Register to run or walk the 5K / 10K or 1 Mile on the Runway, become a sponsor for this year’s event or sign up to volunteer for day-before and day-of event activities. The event also includes a 100-meter kid’s dash that is free, and the course is baby-stroller friendly, and wheelchair accessible. In addition to the race, several vendors will be onsite for activities including music and face painting. Come one, come all, and join us for a day of fun, memories and making a difference right here in our own community.
