Rising and One Troy by John Davis
Located on the departure level, inside Door 4 near the Airport Authority office, two bold abstract works are displayed. Rising and One Troy, by artist John Davis, explore movement through layered paint, strong contrast, and physical mark-making.
RISING
ONE TROY
Rising centers on upward motion and change. The piece uses heavy texture, directional strokes, and deep color to create a sense of momentum. Davis describes the work as capturing the tension between struggle and ascent. The painting feels active, as if it’s still forming, reminding viewers that progress often comes through pressure, effort, and persistence.
One Troy takes a different approach, focusing on value. The title references a troy ounce, a traditional unit of measurement for precious metals. The piece uses contrast, depth, and metallic elements to explore ideas of value. It encourages viewers to think about what we consider valuable and why.
Davis uses a hands-on painting style that focuses on building each piece layer by layer. His process allows the work to develop naturally as he paints, which can be seen in both pieces on display at PTI through their texture and movement.
