TSA TIPS & INFORMATION

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security screening checkpoints at Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO) open daily at 3:45 a.m. and close at 8:15 p.m. or the time of the last scheduled departing flight.

If your flight is delayed, please reach out to your airline to get updated TSA checkpoint closing times and adjust your arrival accordingly as the checkpoints may close earlier or may remain open later depending on departing flight schedules. Please make sure to arrive with enough time to process through the checkpoint. TSA recommends passengers arrive 2 hours prior to their scheduled departure for domestic flights.

Airlines are responsible for notifying the TSA in advance of a need (such as delays) for extended checkpoint operating hours.

TSA INFO & TRAVEL TIPS

Whether you’re a first-time flyer or a seasoned traveler, it’s helpful to know what to expect at the security checkpoint. Below are quick links to TSA guidelines covering ID requirements, packing rules, and more – so you can navigate your trip from PTI with confidence.

What Can I Bring?

Not sure what’s allowed in your carry-on or checked bag? The TSA provides a searchable list of items from electronics to snacks to sporting goods – so you can pack with confidence. View the full list here.

ID Requirements

As of May 7, 2025, TSA began enforcing the federal REAL ID requirement. Travelers flying from PTI – or any U.S. airport – must present a REAL ID or another TSA-accepted form of identification to board their flight. Without it, passengers may experience delays, additional screening, or be denied entry at checkpoint. A list of acceptable alternative identification can be viewed here.

Liquid Rules

TSA limits the amount of liquids, gels, and aerosols passengers can bring in their carry-on bags. Each item must be 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less and fit into a single quart-sized, clear plastic bag. Learn more about the 3-1-1 liquids rule on the TSA website.
