PIEDMONT TRIAD, NC, March 28th, 2022 – Over the past few years, PTI has undergone a phased rehabilitation of Runway 5R / 23L. The next phase of runway rehabilitation will take place in two parts and is scheduled to begin Monday, April 11th, 2022. This year’s renovations include rehabilitation of approximately 900-feet of the runway’s pavement and selected connecting taxiways, renovation of the airfield lighting system and some navigational aids, and work on airfield drainage structures. Closure details are as follows: Part I:
- Runway 5R / 23L will close April 11th and re-open to operations at a reduced length in approximately one month
- Runway 14 / 32 will close April 11th and remain closed for the duration of the rehabilitation project
Part II:
- Runway 5R / 23L will close in October and re-open at its full length in late-November
Projected schedules for the closures are subject to change dependent on weather and other construction contingencies. Periodic project updates will be posted on our noise webpage. This year’s work will complete Runway 5R / 23L rehabilitation work. Future projects requiring runway closure have not been scheduled at this time, however, the taxiways (which connect to the runway) will require pavement rehabilitation in the future. Runway 5R / 23L is the primary runway at PTI. This work should not affect airline schedules, but residents near the airport may observe modified air traffic patterns from early April through November 2022. Federal Aviation Administration air traffic controllers and individual pilots will remain responsible for determining runway assignments for the project’s duration.
