Marshall Facility Construction

Construction at the Marshall facility is progressing well. Contractors are actively working on the installation of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and paving the apron area. Concrete has been placed for the interior slabs in the four bays that face the Crossfield Taxiway. Between the two sets of hangar bays, known as the “spine,” a mechanical shop and storage space are planned, with offices on the second floor. Work is also underway to install underground utilities and hanging sprinkler system within the three bays at the back of the hangar, in preparation for placing concrete slabs on that side. The hanger bays on the four bay side is expected to be completed by January 2025, while the three bays on the back side are scheduled for February 2025, and the paint bay is anticipated to be ready by April 2025.

NCDOT Access Roads

The Marshall team, in collaboration with the Authority, is working with Piedmont Natural Gas and Duke Power to install utilities along Bentley Road, extending to the Marshall facility. The water and sewage project has been completed, and the Authority is now coordinating with NCDOT on the paving of Bentley Road, which is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving 2024.

Runway 5L/23R has been temporarily closed, but is expected to reopen by the end of October 2024. Contractors are busy placing stone, installing electrical components, underdrains, and paving within the runway safety area. The entire project is on track to be completed by the end of 2024.

Terminal Roof Project

This project has reached approximately 80% completion. Contractors are replacing roof drains and tying them into the existing drainage system within the terminal building, while also installing new flashing, enhancing lighting protection, and setting up a roof system with a 20-year warranty. The project is scheduled to be completed in December 2024, but completion is now anticipated by November 2024.

Line-of-Sight Clearing Project

Work continues on the embankment behind the rental car facilities for Worldwide Drive, along with the construction of retaining walls. The contractor’s schedule indicates completion by the end of 2024.

Taxiway D Reconstruction – Phase 1

Progress on Taxiway D includes ongoing asphalt work along Taxiway K, with the Taxiway K/D intersection already completed. The contractor’s focus is now shifting to the main line of Taxiway D.
