Access to PTI’s Facilities

Public / Pre-Security Areas: Media are allowed unescorted in all public areas of PTI including the main terminal and lobbies, external parking areas, and the designated aircraft observation area.

The media should not block or restrict movement anywhere in the terminal, and concourse entrances and exits should not be obstructed. When conducting interviews, the media must not interfere with airport or airline operations.  The authority would like to be notified when the media will be filming in these areas so the appropriate departments/airlines can be notified.

Restricted / Post-Security Areas: Media must be escorted into all restricted and post-security areas. The Media Relations team will provide escort, but reserve the right to deny any request. Any live media broadcast is considered a commercial activity and requires advanced notification to the Media Relations team.

Tenant Areas: Shops and restaurants are leased spaces and the media must have the tenant’s written permission to photograph, film, or conduct interviews in those areas.

Media Equipment: Cables, extension cords, lights, etc., may not be placed in any public area without prior approval from the Media Relations team and these items must not interfere with passenger flow or airport operations.

Media Parking at PTI

All media covering stories at PTI are welcome to park in our short-term parking areas (departure and arrival levels).

Please note the following:

  1. Media parking is available only for vehicles while covering stories at PTI. Media traveling on assignment should park in the garage or long-term lot and pay regular parking rates.
  2. Media parking availability may be limited by passenger parking. During these times, media vehicles may be asked to park in another designated area or the garage.

Weather and Delays

Airlines, FAA air traffic controllers, and pilots determine the delay, cancellation, or re-routing of flights. Inquiries about the number of impacted flights and passengers should be directed to individual airlines.

Adverse weather conditions could affect airport operations due to airfield conditions, visibility, or other reasons. Piedmont Triad International Airport does not close during inclement weather conditions. At times, there may be an interruption in operations to clear snow and ice from the runways or aircraft ramps. Atmospheric conditions, navigational equipment, aircraft equipment, pilot qualifications, aircraft de-icing, ground movement, and terminal gate availability all impact decisions to have flights delayed, canceled, or re-routed to other airports.

Emergency Procedures

In the event of an emergency, key information will be posted on our homepage. Please check this page before contacting the Authority for further details. Never contact the Piedmont Triad Airport Police or Fire Department directly; all inquiries will be handled through the Media Relations team. This department will disseminate information related to PTI Airport facilities and operations. Piedmont Triad Airport Authority’s Media Relations staff do not act as spokespersons for the airport, airlines, TSA, or other private entities and government agencies.

During an ongoing emergency or breaking news situation, contact the Authority to find out if there is a designated press area for the event and the schedule for media updates.

Commercial Filming

Requests to film at Piedmont Triad International Airport should be made to the PTI Media Relations team. Marketing & Customer Relations personnel will coordinate requests to film at PTI through the Chief Operating Officer. Media interested in filming passengers, aircraft, and/or equipment of a particular airline must receive written approval from that airline’s corporate media contact. TSA security measures are always enforced.
