The Sunflower Program was established in 2016 in the UK since then it has been adopted globally. The program is to bring awareness to individuals with hidden disabilities in a discreet way. A green lanyard with a yellow sunflower was chosen for passengers to discreetly choose to indicate they have an invisible disability and may need some support, assistance, or simply a little more time when moving through the airport. The program was a success. Approximately 80 airports in North America are now participating in the program.
