The Airport Authority

The Greensboro-High Point Airport Authority was created by the North Carolina General Assembly to own, operate and manage the airport in Guilford County. On April 22, 1942, the Airport Authority held its inaugural meeting. Greensboro department store executive Joseph T. Martin was elected as the Authority’s first chairman. High Point resident R.T. Amos became vice chairman and Caesar Cone of Greensboro began a 26-year career as secretary.

In 1985, the Airport Authority membership was expanded to seven, with the new representative being appointed by Forsyth County Board of Commissioners and the Winston Salem City Council.

The Airport Authority was officially re-named the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority in 1987. Its members are appointed by Guilford County Board of Commissioners (three members), Forsyth County Board of Commissioners (one member), Greensboro City Council (one member), High Point City Council (one member), and the Winston Salem City Council (one member).

Piedmont Triad Airport Authority Board meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday of the month (unless noted) at 2 p.m. in the Stanley Frank Board Room located in the terminal building.
