PIEDMONT TRIAD, NC, September 23, 2025 – Triad Honor Flight, a member of the national Honor Flight Network, will take to the skies on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, carrying more than 100 local veterans from the Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTI) to Washington, D.C. There, they will visit the memorials that honor their service and sacrifice.

This fall’s flight will include eight Purple Heart recipients and veterans who served in the Korean War, the Cold War, and the Vietnam War.

Triad Honor Flight is a nonprofit organization led by a volunteer board of directors and operating under the Honor Flight Network guidelines. While the Triad’s first Honor Flights (2009–2011) focused exclusively on WWII veterans, today’s organization welcomes all veterans aged 65 and older, ensuring more heroes receive the recognition they deserve.

Alison Huber, Triad Honor Flight Executive Director and organizer, shared: “Honor Flight days are the most emotional days of the year for me. Seeing the impact on our veterans warms my heart, and each flight becomes a cherished memory. The welcome-home celebration has become a signature part of these flights—it’s the homecoming so many never received. I’m grateful to play a small part in honoring our Triad veterans in this way.”

Kevin Baker, Executive Director of PTI, added: “We are honored to once again serve as the launching point for such a meaningful journey. PTI is proud to stand alongside our community to celebrate these veterans, ensuring they feel the gratitude they deeply deserve. Welcoming them home is one of the most powerful moments we experience at the airport.”

The flight will depart from PTI on Wednesday, October 1. The send-off ceremony will take place from 6:45 to 7:15 a.m. The welcome-home celebration will begin around 7:30 pm, with the flight landing approximately 8:15 p.m. The public is warmly invited to attend both events. Parking will be free in all long-term lots and garages.

Media interested in covering the ceremonies should contact Anjali Shah at shaha@gsoair.org or 336-665-5687. A designated media area outside the terminal will be available to capture the flight’s departure.

The Piedmont Triad International Airport is owned, operated, and managed by the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority. The Authority is governed by a board of directors representing Greensboro, High Point, and Winston-Salem, as well as Forsyth and Guilford counties. PTI is North Carolina’s fourth-busiest airport and a hub of the state’s growing aerospace industry.
