In a move that redefines what’s possible in aviation, JetZero, a bold startup with serious aerospace muscle, announced on June 12th that it will establish its advanced manufacturing headquarters at PTI.
And this isn’t your average aircraft project.
JetZero’s Z4, a revolutionary all-wing jet design, promises up to 50% better fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and a passenger experience unlike anything flying today. The company’s decision marks one of the largest aerospace investments in North Carolina history, with a projected $4.7 billion investment and the creation of more than 14,500 jobs over time.
“This is a monumental win for the Piedmont Triad and the state of North Carolina,” said Graham Bennett, Chairman of the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority Board of Directors. “JetZero is a bold innovator shaping the next century of aviation, and we’re honored they’ve chosen to build their future here.”

The Z4 aircraft is designed with a blended-wing body configuration that’s engineered to carry 200–250 passengers, fly up to
5,000 nautical miles, and is compatible with existing airport infrastructure and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
“North Carolina offers the ideal combination of talent, infrastructure, and forward-thinking leadership to support our mission to reshape aviation,” said JetZero CEO Tom O’Leary.
JetZero’s facility at PTI will serve as a cornerstone of its long-term manufacturing strategy. The company expects to break ground in 2026 on its “Factory of the Future,” a highly advanced production site that will incorporate AI-driven manufacturing, digital integration, and composite technologies to streamline production and enhance quality control.
“This is the kind of transformational project that only comes around once in a generation,” said Kevin Baker, PTAA Executive Director. “JetZero’s vision aligns perfectly with our mission to be a global center for aerospace excellence for the next century, and we’re proud to help make that vision a reality at PTI.”
JetZero is supported by a $235 million U.S. Air Force contract and has drawn strong interest from commercial carriers. United and Alaska Airlines have placed conditional orders, while Delta Air Lines is partnering with JetZero through its Sustainable Skies Lab.

With global air travel projected to double by 2040, the arrival of JetZero at PTI is more than an economic development story. It’s a decisive step toward sustainable, next-generation aviation.
PTI’s long-term strategy to attract visionary aerospace leaders continues to deliver results. With JetZero on board, the airport is poised to become a centerpiece of U.S. aviation innovation for decades to come.
