June saw an uptick of passengers marked by the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) report that June 11th the agency screened more than 2 million people at airport security checkpoints which marked the highest number of screened individuals in one day since the start of the pandemic last year. With numbers on the rise, Fourth of July weekend showed a steady increase in summer travel.

During the Fourth of July Weekend, TSA screened over 10.1 million travelers which included screening from July 1st to July 5th, which averages approximately 2.02 million travelers daily with some airports exceeding 2019 travel numbers. During the same time period in 2021, PTI operated over 13,300 seats compared to 2019’s 15,400 seats.

As summer continues and air travel makes a steady return, travelers are urged to:

  • Arrive two hours prior to boarding time
  • Limit touchpoints by utilizing your airline’s mobile boarding pass and PTI FastPass services
  • Follow Federal mask mandate
  • Know your airline protocols and guidelines concerning masks and on-board amenities
  • Research the country and destination’s requirements for entry and exiting concerning testing when traveling internationally.

PTI’s on-site restaurants are re-opening as passenger numbers increase. To view the most up-to-date restaurant hours, visit our traveler services hub, and for information on passenger guidelines visit our online PTI Prepared center.

In an effort to decrease wait times at security checkpoint, the Transportation Security Administration advises travelers to consider enrollment in the TSA PreCheck® program. The process of enrollment can be started online and finished by visiting a local TSA enrollment center.
