Temporary Entrance Open at PTI

Over the next two years, visitors to Piedmont Triad International Airport will need to be aware of traffic changes as they leave Bryan Boulevard to enter the airport. The entrance to the airport will change three times over the next two years as new construction at the airport is completed.

How Will I Know Where To Go?

Just follow the directional signs pointing commuters in the right direction and allow a little extra driving time until you become accustomed to the new roads and signs.

How Do I Get To PTI?

In Phase 2, set to open September 11, 2007, PTI Airport will still be accessible from Bryan Boulevard, but both northbound and southbound airport passenger traffic will:

  • Enter the airport at the same traffic light intersection on the newly rerouted Bryan Boulevard
  • Proceed down a temporary road to the new Airport Parkway
  • Flow onto the new Airport Parkway
  • Continue straight at the traffic light, remaining on Airport Parkway.  Do not turn left onto North Triad Boulevard unless you need to go to the cargo building, the Post Office or to the rental car service facilities.
  • Continue past the access to the Marriott Hotel which will now be on the left.
  • Continue around to the left to connect to South Triad Boulevard which takes you to the terminal building and long term parking.

Outgoing traffic will follow North Triad Boulevard back to Airport Parkway and out to the traffic light at Bryan Boulevard. (See map)

Why The Changes?

Bryan Boulevard has been rerouted to the northwest to give the airport more land to build a new runway and taxiway to better serve the growing Piedmont population and to allow room for the FedEx expansion. The airport entrance changes are a result of the new runway and airport expansion.

When Will All Of The Changes Be Completed?

PTI is changing the passenger traffic flow in and out of the airport in three phases.

September 11, 2007 we will begin using Phase 2.

The final phase is expected to be completed in the summer of 2008 when the FedEx building and new runway will be nearing completion. That phase will include four new bridges and nine ramps to make the traffic in and out of the airport flow smoothly.
